Annual Gynecological Exam
Annual pelvic exams and Pap smears, while not something women eagerly anticipate, are important in monitoring and maintaining a woman’s gynecological health. The annual exam also screens for inflammation, infection, or abnormal cells that may indicate disease. Think of the yearly exam as an opportunity to catch any health issues during the early stages. The actual pelvic exam typically only lasts a few minutes and involves the following:
Most gynecologists are happy to explain the exam process before beginning and asking questions throughout the exam is often encouraged. Again, an annual pelvic exam is one of the most critical steps a woman can take in preventing disorders and diseases of the pelvic organs.
