Birth Control/Contraception
Birth control is a regimen of one or more devices, actions, or medications needed to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of pregnancy and/or childbirth. Choosing the optimal method of contraception is a critical decision that can impact a woman’s daily life. Birth control can be accomplished via injection every three months, taking a daily pill, or by using devices such as an intra-uterine device (IUD), the Implanon, or Nuva Ring. Different methods of birth control have varying characteristics with respective advantages and disadvantages. Condoms, for instance, are the only method of barrier contraception that can prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. There are also permanent forms of contraception such as laparoscopic tubal ligation and hysteroscopic sterilization.
